Serapis Bey is regarded in Theosophy as one of the Masters of Ancient Wisdom. In the Ascended Master Teachings, he is considered an Ascended Master who disciplines us in the initiations for the ascension. He is also a member of the Great White Brotherhood. He is regarded as the Chohan (or Lord) of the Fourth Ray.
Serapis Bey is the hierarch of the Ascension Temple at Luxor and the thirteenth member of the Council of Adepts of the Ascension Temple. He is also known as Serapis Soleil, Serapis of the Sun.
Serapis Bey was incarnated as a high priest in one of the "Temples of the Sacred Fire" on Atlantis, who migrated to Egypt at the time of the destruction of Atlantis. He was embodied as the Egyptian Pharaoh Amenhotep III (the architect of the Great Pyramid, who constructed the Temple of Luxor to the god Amun), the son of Thutmose IV and the great-grandson of Thutmose III, an incarnation of Kuthumi. He also embodied as Leonidas, the King of Sparta, who was killed in 480 BC, defending the pass of Thermopylae against the invasion of Greece by Emperor Xerxes I of Persia.
Adherents of the Ascended Master Teachings say that Serapis Bey, after being killed as Leonidas, immediately reembodied as Phidias (c. 480–430 BC), the greatest of all classical Greek sculptors. He was the architect of the Parthenon, supervising its exquisitely masterful construction. Within the Parthenon, he placed his most famous work, the forty-foot-high statue of Pallas Athena, in gold and ivory, representing the Mother figure, the Goddess of Truth. His art is characterized by its exalted beauty and spirituality, and he lived as the ultimate personification of the golden age of Grecian master artists who had an enduring influence on all subsequent Western art.
According to the teachings of Agni Yoga, Serapis Bey was, in past lives, the Roman King Numa Pompilius and the philosophers Confucius, Plato, and Lucius Annaeus Seneca. In the book Supermundane, he is referred to as "The Thinker."
Serapis Bey attained his Ascension, becoming an Ascended Master about 400 BC.
The fourth ray that Serapis Bey represents is the ascension flame, the white light of the Mother in the base-of-the-spine chakra. The white chakra is the focal point of the energy of Mother, which the Hindus refer to as the Goddess Kundalini. Out of this white light comes architecture, the principles of mathematics, the foundations of the building of the Matter temple, and the pyramid of Self.
Whatever way we pursue the flame of Mother, it is the raising up of this energy to the crown of life and to the third eye via the caduceus action that gives us mastery over sin, disease, and death and our ultimate overcoming. In the East, Ramakrishna regarded Jesus the Christ as the great yogi, the Son of God. And truly, he was because he mastered the energies of the chakras.
Serapis Bey initiates the ascending ones in the applications of the sacred fire, architect of holy orders, the inner life, and golden-age cities, military disciplinarian of the forces of Light, Peace, and Cosmic Freedom: I AM the Guard!
Serapis teaches that the path of the ascension is the path of love. He says it is love and the dream of love fulfilled. So, we know that the path of love leads to the path of purity.
Architects, planners, and those dedicated to the purity and discipline of any undertaking serve with Serapis Bey on the fourth ray.
In the presence of Serapis, one knows an entirely different conception of what we call Christ, the real person of us all. Known as the Great Disciplinarian, Serapis came from Venus with the Ancient of Days to rekindle the sacred fire in the hearts of wayward mankind. His great enthusiasm to reclaim the sons of man as kings and priests unto God swelled and mounted into a flame of iron will, determination, and discipline.
He assists his students in the self-disciplines that are necessary for the ascension: the discipline of the four lower bodies so that the Christ may appear and use them as vehicles for service and attainment in the world of form; the disciplining of past momentums of negative spirals and human creation that would stand in the way of the ascension flame forming within the heart of everyone evolving upon the planet through the acceleration of the threefold flame.
Guiseppe Verdi captured the music of the ascension flame in the Triumphal March from Aïda. The radiance of the electronic presence of Serapis Bey and his twin flame pours through the aria Celeste Aïda. The keynote of the Ascension Temple is Liebestraum by Franz Liszt.
